After reading news that scientists found 3 planets that could hold life, I knew I wanted to do Space Nails again!

This time I used a black base coat and instead of using white as the star dots, I used a sparkly silver.

With a sponge I dabbed on white, then a dark green, a dark purple, a neon green and an opal like pink. Once dry I dotted it with silver.

I must say, I like the silver better than the white as star dots. I feel like it's not as much of a contrast and the dots sparkle... Like stars should.

Disney Nails!

I'm going to Disneyland tomorrow, so I decided to do my nails with something Mickey.

I painted the tips with the regular polish brush, and made the Mickeys by dipping the end of an old mechanical pencil (I know, suuuuper professional) in a little dollop of black polish and dotting it on the nail. Then I covered it all with a clear top coat.

And there you have it. My super sloppy Disney nails. They took all of 30mins, not including dry time. Overall I'm cool with how my half-assed, homage, Disney Nails turned out.

Lightning Strikes Twice Nails!

Yesterday, while I was walking to the store, a bird shat on me. I know this might seem like more of a reason to change my shirt and not my nails but I decided to change both.

Having a bird poop on you is rare... As rare as lightning that strikes twice. I mean, it happens. It just doesn't happen very often. Aaand that's why I decided to do a double lightning french manicure.

As a prep step I cut squares of electrical tape then cut the squares in to an "X" making 4 triangles. (I use electrical tape because unlike scotch tape, I've noticed that it does not rip up dry nail polish underneath but play around and use whatever tape you think works best for you.)

I overlapped two triangles per nail creating a jagged edge. I used a metallic silver color to help the top color pop. After painting the nail I waited between 5-10 seconds then removed each triangle individually (using tweezers) starting with the top. I remove each piece of tape individually because nail projects in the past have proved that removing both pieces of tape together tends to make the lines less crisp. I've also learned that using tweezers to remove the tape helps keep the polish on both nails in tact.

After the first layer was dry I used the bottom line of the silver as a guide for the next layer of electrical tape, making sure to try and keep both sides about the same distance from the bottom line. Once the tape was on I painted the top color teal, removing the tape triangles in the same manner as the first layer.

I used the tape triangles (when they were dry) again on the other hand making sure that the edge facing toward the top of the nail was the side without polish. (The fact that you can reapply electrical tape is another reason I like to use it.) After I added a clear top coat to make sure the colors were protected, I was done. It's honestly not as time consuming as I'd originally thought and I loved the end result. I'll definitely be doing these again in the future. Until then, I'll be thinking of other color combinations to use.

Double Trouble

Earlier this week I had a night where sleep was just not happening, so, I decided to give this double lined, two color, french tipped nail a go.

I added the extra thin line by applying two pieces of thin electrical tape on the nail after the base coat.

I didn't really take pictures of this nail project as I went along. I'm sorry! It's pretty easy to figure out and I think you'll love the result if you try it.

Easter Headpiece. Put a bird on it!

Easter is a holiday when hats are prominent. So of course, as a lover of hats, I use this holiday as an opportunity to create ridiculous springtime head attire.

This year I decided to make my headwear a bird's nest. I figured it was finally time to have a bird's nest on my head that wasn't my hair.

Sparkly tulle, beautiful flowered material and a fake yellow rose on felt backing make the nest. Then, of course, I put a bird on it!

Springtime Nail Boredom

Now that it's officially spring, I thought I'd do something in a pastel.

I loved this purple and thought it would compliment a diagonal French manicure.

I used electrical tape to make the line and removed it immediately after painting. It was a simple, quick and I'm sure ill be doing this again with another color.

My Nails? Oh, They're Out of this World!

Since the Asteroid 2012 DA14 was passing close to the earth  and Russia had a meteor (or meteorite, they aren't sure yet) shatter and cause a devastating sonic boom today.... I figured that it was time to give Space Nails a try! They were surprisingly very easy and a lot of fun. I will definitely give them a try again, mostly likely with a different color palate.

I started with a coat of dark blue polish as a base. After the blue had dried, I painted some white polish on a sponge and dabbed it on the nails in a random fashion. I used the same sponging technique with a dark purple, teal and neon green polish.

I dabbed on some little star / planet dots and waited for them to dry before adding a clear top coat. Since I don't have any fancy nail painting accessorizes, I used an old, empty, mechanical pencil to make the star / planetary dots. I dipped the end in a dollop of white polish and barely pressed for small dots and added a bit of pressure for larger ones.

Space nails, Nebula Nails, Galaxy Nails... I plan on calling them all of the above. Maybe I'll try adding a different type of star next time.
